What it is
ETIAS is an online travel authorisation linked to your passport for short stays (up to 90 days in any 180) across 30 European countries, including the Schengen Area. It is not a visa — it's a pre-travel security check for people who can already enter Europe visa-free.
Who needs it
Nationals of visa-exempt countries (for example the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan and many others) who travel to Europe for short stays. Travellers who already need a Schengen visa do not use ETIAS.
How to apply
Online via the official EU ETIAS website or app, before you travel. Most applications are expected to be approved quickly, but allow time in case extra checks are needed.
